The world’s first 260T hydrogen-powered mining truck makes a stunning debut.


As you step into the Shanghai Automobile Exhibition Center, an extremely massive figure will immediately catch your eye—it is the world’s first 260T hydrogen-powered mining truck, jointly developed by Shanghai Hydrogen Link Energy Group and other enterprises. This mining truck resembles an imposing mobile steel fortress, measuring 14.748 meters in length, 9.106 meters in width, and 7.439 meters in height, with tires as tall as 3.7 meters. Reaching the cab even requires a three-story ladder. Leaning nearby is the yet-to-be-installed 148-cubic-meter dump body, exuding a powerful and awe-inspiring presence.

This hydrogen-powered mining truck adopts an advanced 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen storage system and features an outstandingly performing powertrain, offering significant advantages such as long range, high load capacity, and zero carbon emissions. With a rated power exceeding 1,864 kilowatts, a rated load capacity of more than 240 tons, and a driving range of over 120 kilometers, it can easily adapt to complex, all-weather working environments. This achievement marks a major breakthrough for hydrogen energy in the heavy-duty transportation sector and represents a solid, powerful step forward.


Meanwhile, relying on more than ten years of dedicated technological development in power conversion and control, Wenlida Power Electronics has created a comprehensive “Smart Energy Solution” tailored to the specific needs of converting mining trucks from diesel to electric power. At the core of this solution is the 2MW DC-DC converter.


During the initial R&D phase, the Wenlida team faced numerous challenges such as unstable power output and high energy loss under the heavy-load conditions typical of mining operations. Overcoming these obstacles required 18 months of relentless effort, countless trials, and continuous improvements. The resulting 2MW DC-DC converter achieves an exceptional energy conversion efficiency of 98.5% and supports a wide voltage input/output range, perfectly adapting to the complex energy system of mining trucks.


When combined with the independently developed intelligent control system, the converter can respond to the truck’s varying operational demands in just 0.1 seconds. This effectively ensures stable performance after transitioning from diesel to hydrogen power, significantly improves energy utilization efficiency, and lays a solid foundation for the mining truck’s outstanding overall performance.

Shanghai Hydrogen Link’s 260T hydrogen-powered mining truck is packed with impressive highlights.


In terms of power performance, it is equipped with 5 sets of 200 kW hydrogen fuel cells, providing a hydrogen supply of up to 236 kg. Combined with a 1560 kW XCMG motor, this “giant” is capable of reaching a speed of 64.5 km/h.


It can carry 118 cubic meters of ore when loaded flat, and up to 148 cubic meters with a 2:1 heaped load. To put it in perspective, it can hold the equivalent of 30 family cars in a single load, making its “capacity” truly astonishing.


In terms of climbing ability, the hydrogen-powered mining truck features a hydrogen-electric hybrid system that enables a maximum gradeability of 17%. With strong power, it easily handles all kinds of complex road conditions.

In a real?world application at a mining site, this system increased the combined output power of hydrogen and electricity by 20% during heavy?load climbing while reducing energy consumption by 15%. This ensures that the mining truck delivers stable power output and optimal energy distribution across various operating conditions, such as heavy?load climbing and high?speed driving.


A relevant person in charge at Wenlida stated: “The 2MW DC?DC converter is like the ‘energy heart’ of the mining truck. It efficiently converts hydrogen and electric energy, ensuring that every unit of energy is used where it matters most, helping the truck achieve ‘strong power with low consumption.’”


In addition, Wenlida has established a deep industry?university?research cooperation mechanism with Shanghai Hydrogen Link. The two parties formed a joint technical task force to develop an emergency energy switching system tailored to unexpected situations during the truck’s actual operation. The 2MW DC?DC converter again plays a key role in this system, capable of completing a seamless energy mode switch within 0.5 seconds through its rapid response capability, thus ensuring the safe and stable operation of the vehicle.


Achieving both environmental and economic benefits.

In terms of both environmental and economic benefits, the Shanghai Hydrogen Link 260T hydrogen-powered mining truck also delivers outstanding performance. Compared with traditional diesel mining trucks, it truly achieves zero carbon emissions. According to Ren Yahui, Chairman of Shanghai Hydrogen Link Energy Group, a single 260-ton hydrogen-powered mining truck operating around the clock can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 3,000 tons per year. Over its entire life cycle, when the price of hydrogen is around 25 yuan per kilogram, it can save approximately 30 million yuan in costs, representing enormous economic value.


Moreover, the mining truck also boasts wide environmental adaptability, with an operating temperature range of -50℃ to 60℃ and the ability to start without auxiliary cold-start support at -35℃. Whether in extreme cold or intense heat, it can operate stably, providing mines with a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective transportation solution.

Wenlida Power Electronics’ 2MW DC?DC converter has further optimized the energy consumption performance of the mining truck. Through precise tuning of the power electronic equipment, real?time analysis of the truck’s operating data, and proactive adjustment of energy distribution strategies, the system effectively reduces energy loss during operation.


Field tests show that with the support of the 2MW DC?DC converter technology, the truck’s lifecycle energy cost is reduced by an additional 12%. While improving environmental benefits, this also further enhances the truck’s economic competitiveness, making this hydrogen?powered mining truck even more advantageous in terms of cost savings.
